No additional software needed to support VPN connection (connection is being done using standard unix/windows application). All software installed on your computer(s) will be working through VPN automatically and that is the main difference from Proxy where software has to support Proxy connection.
VPN is useful in connecting two or more remote offices via Internet because ALL information going from one point to another will be encrypted.
